LEE BROWN

Eleven July Incorporated is the brainchild of Lee Brown and was created to provide quality choices in music, comedy, and lecturers in the Northeast Florida Region.

Brown has been promoting concerts and providing great programming choices for over ten years specializing in underserved genres. “A steady diet of one type of music is not good for the soul”. “All types of music hold nutritional values, and a well-balanced diet is key to a healthy music lover’s well-being.

Brown, in his role as talent appraiser, believes in providing a platform for lesser-known artists. “Sometimes the artists on their way up are hungry, which often leads to a better overall presentation”. “I have seen artists who are trying to break into the business perform at the smallest of venues, and as soon as they strike their first chord, you immediately know that they have staying power”, Brown said.

Brown recognizes the place Jazz, Blues, and Roots music has in the history of Jacksonville, and he intends on bringing that old spirit back to life with the Jacksonville Jazz Series. “Jacksonville was the winter stop for many of the musicians coming out of New York City on their way to New Orleans. “When musicians like Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, and Jelly Roll Morton would travel south, they had to stop in Jacksonville and switch trains to head west. Often this was a layover of a couple of days before they could catch another train. What better way to make some extra money than to perform while they had a layover? It was during this time that Jacksonville became known as the "Harlem of the South".

Stay tuned as Eleven July presents quality entertainment and helps restore Northeast Florida to its prominence on the national entertainment map.
